Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
1. With ignition key ON or engine started, the "SRS" (Supplemental Restraint System) warning lamp will illuminate for about 7 seconds, then turn off. This indicates the system is functioning properly.2. Turn ignition to Lock position.
3. Disconnect and isolate the battery ground cable, and wait at least 2 minutes before proceeding with diagnosis. Failure to do so could result in accidental deployment and possible personal injury.
4. Remove rear console system assembly.

5. Disconnect Airbag System Diagnostic Module (ASDM), using screwdriver to push in lock spring of lock lever. A double-lock connector is used, do not use excessive force as the connector may be easily damaged.
6. Disconnect the red 14-pin connector from SRS diagnosis unit while pressing down the connector lock.
7. Check ASDM case, brackets and connectors for deformities.
8. Remove airbag module from steering wheel, refer to Air Bag Systems/Air Bag Control Module/Service and Repair for removal procedure.
9. Check pad, hooks, and connectors for cracks, deformities or damage.
10. Check airbag inflator case for damage or deformities.
11. Check steering wheel harness and connectors for damage or deformities.
12. Remove steering wheel using suitable steering wheel puller.
13. Remove steering column covers.
14. Remove clockspring, refer to Air Bag Systems/Clockspring Assembly/Spiral Cable/Service and Repair.
15. Check clockspring, connectors, case and gear for damage. If clockspring or any other components, including connectors are damaged, replace as necessary.
16. Check SRS body wiring and connectors for damage or poor connections, replace as necessary.
SRS Wiring Harness:
17. Reverse procedure to assemble, referring to "Replacement and Repair Procedures" as necessary.
18. Connect negative battery cable, then turn ignition switch ON and ensure SRS warning light illuminates for approximately 7 seconds, then stays Off for a minimum of 45 seconds.
