Canister Purge Solenoid: Description and Operation
DESCRIPTIONThe Purge Control Solenoid valve is an electromechanical, vacuum switching valve. It controls the purging of gas vapors from the evaporative canister into the intake plenum.
OPERATION
When the Engine Control Module (ECM) senses conditions suitable for purge operation, it supplies the ground circuit to the solenoid. The plunger in the solenoid moves, connecting the inlet and outlet ports. This allows vacuum to be applied to the purge port of the canister.
