Canister Purge Solenoid: Service and Repair

NOTE: The duty cycle EVAP purge solenoid is mounted on the side of the air cleaner. The top of the solenoid has the word TOP on it. The solenoid will not operate unless it is installed correctly.

REMOVAL
1. Remove air cleaner tube.
2. Disconnect electrical connector from EVAP solenoid (Fig. 82).
3. Disconnect vacuum harness from solenoid.
4. Lift solenoid up off of bracket.

INSTALLATION
1. Install solenoid onto bracket with the top side up.
- The upper end of the solenoid has the word TOP on it.
2. Ensure solenoid does not contact other surfaces or components.
- The solenoid could make a clicking sound if it contacts other surfaces or components.
3. Attach electrical connector to solenoid.
4. Connect vacuum harness to solenoid.
5. Install air cleaner tube.
