Front Crankshaft Seal: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Remove fan module. Refer to Cooling System for procedure.
2. Remove drive belts.
3. Remove crankshaft damper.
4. Using Tool 6341A, or equivalent to remove oil seal. Be careful not to damage that crankshaft seal surface of cover.





INSTALLATION
1. Install new seal by using Tool C-4992, or equivalent.
2. Place seal into opening with seal spring towards the inside of engine. Install seal until flush with corer.
3. Install crankshaft damper using plate L-4524, or equivalent. Thrust Bearing/washer and 5.9 inch bolt. Use Special Tool C-3281, or equivalent to hold damper while tightening Bolt to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.). Refer to crankshaft damper Installation in this section.
4. Install fan module.
5. Install accessory drive belts.
