Cuts Out/Misses
Symptom: Steady pulsation or jerking that follows engine speed, usually more pronounced as engine load increases. The exhaust has a steady spitting sound at idle or low speed.POSSIBLE CAUSES
Vacuum Hoses
- Vacuum hoses split, kinked, improperly connected, SEE Vehicle Emission Control Information (VECI), label vacuum diagram.
Engine Mechanical
- Air leaks at common chamber and intake manifold gaskets.
Ignition Systems
- Ignition wires cracked, burned spots or burned ends, hardening, correct firing order, and proper resistance.
- Wiring harness bare spots, pinches, cuts or corroded connections.
- Open ignition system ground.
- Ignition timing.
Fuel Systems
- Fuel pressure.
- Water contaminated fuel.
- Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) binding or sticking.
- Air flow sensor.
- Clogged fuel injectors.
Starting and Charging Systems
- Alternator output voltage.
Emission Controls
- Canister purge system operation.
- EGR valve operation.
