Power Steering Pump Removal and Installation


1. Disconnect vapor separator hose from carburetor or throttle body, then the two wires from A/C clutch cycling switch, if equipped.
2. Remove power steering pump drive belt adjusting bolt and nut, then the nut attaching pump end hose bracket, if equipped.
3. Raise and support vehicle, then remove nut attaching pump pressure hose bracket to crossmember.
4. Disconnect pressure hose from steering gear and allow fluid to drain into a suitable container.
5. Remove drive belt splash shield, then disconnect both pressure and return hoses at power steering pump. Cap hoses and fittings to prevent entry of dirt.
6. Remove lower stud nut and pivot bolt from power steering pump, then lower the vehicle.
7. Remove belt from pump, then move pump rearward to clear mounting bracket and remove adjusting bracket.
8. Rotate pump so pulley faces rear of vehicle, then lift pump assembly from vehicle.
9. Reverse procedure to install.
