VSS - False Diagnostic Trouble Code 15
NO.: 08-53-93GROUP: Electrical
DATE: Oct. 29, 1993
SUBJECT:
False Diagnostic Trouble Code
MODELS:
1994 (AP) Shadow/Sundance
NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 3.0L ENGINES AND 41TE FOUR SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLES BUILT PRIOR TO 9/22/93, MDH 0922XX.
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Vehicle does not exhibit a driveability or performance problem. However, when using MDS or the Scan Tool (DRB II) for diagnosing engine systems, Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) 15 (Vehicle Speed Sensor Signal) may be present.
DIAGNOSIS:
Locate the I.O.D. (Ignition Off Draw) connector behind the battery in the engine compartment. If all cavities contain wires, proceed with the following repair.
PARTS REQUIRED:
1 4419644 Heat Shrink Sleeve
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This repair involves removing the A14 16RD/WT* circuit from the I.O.D. connector.
1. Disconnect the I.O.D. connector and remove the A14 16RD/WT* wire/terminal from both male and female sides of the connector (see illustration).
2. Reconnect the I.O.D. Slide the heat shrink tube (P/N 4419644) on one side of the A14 16RD/WT* wiring and connect both male and female terminals together, completing the circuit. Spot solder the two joined terminals using rosin core solder. Center the heat shrink tube over the two joined terminals and heat the joint until the tubing is tightly sealed and sealant comes out of both ends of the tubing.
3. Using MDS or the Scan Tool (DRB II), clear all Diagnostic Trouble Codes. Road test the vehicle for a distance that allows the transaxle to shift into third gear.
4. Using MDS or the Scan Tool (DRB II), check for the reoccurrence of Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) 15 (Vehicle Speed Sensor Signal). If the code is not present, no further repairs are necessary. If the code is still present, refer to the appropriate Powertrain Diagnostic Procedures Manual or MDS for repair procedures.
