Poor A/C Performance
THIS BULLETIN SUPERSEDES TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 24-15-94 DATED OCT. 7, 1994 WHICH SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM YOUR FILES. THE REVISION INCREASES THE TIME ALLOWANCE. ALL REVISIONS ARE HIGHLIGHTED WITH **ASTERISKS**.

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Cooling performance of A/C system is poor.
DIAGNOSIS:
Check the refrigerant level and check for R-134a at the discharge and suction line connections of the A/C compressor using the procedures outlined on Page 24-9 of the 1994 LeBaron, Spirit, Acclaim, Shadow and Sundance Service Manual (Publication No. 81-270-4101). If R-134a is found at the discharge and/or suction line connections of the A/C compressor, perform the repair procedure.

NOTE:
GASKET PART NUMBERS 4540158 AND 4540157 SHOULD NEVER BE USED ON VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH R-134a REFRIGERANT AS DETERIORATION OF THE SEALING CAPABILITIES WILL RESULT AND CAUSE REFRIGERANT TO ESCAPE.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This bulletin involves replacing the gaskets between A/C compressor and the discharge and suction lines. Replace both gaskets even if only one connection is suspect.
1. Recover any R-134a refrigerant in the A/C system.
2. Disconnect the A/C discharge and suction lines from the A/C compressor and discard the gaskets.
3. Install new gaskets, P/N 5264373 on the discharge line and P/N 3849730 on the suction line.
4. Reconnect the A/C discharge and suction lines to the A/C compressor. Torque the fasteners to 180-220 in. lbs. (20-25 N-m).
5. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system with R-134a refrigerant using the procedures outlined on Page 24-10 of the 1994 LeBaron, Spirit, Acclaim, Shadow and Sundance Service Manual (Publication No. 81-270-4101).
