Positive Crankcase Ventilation: Description and Operation
Positive Crankcase Ventilation System:
PURPOSE
The PCV system reduces crankcase emissions.
OPERATION
Crankcase vapors are drawn through the PCV valve into the intake manifold by manifold vacuum.
Vapors mix with air/fuel mixture, and are burned during combustion.
CONSTRUCTION
Closed system consists of PCV valve, hose from PCV valve to intake manifold, crankcase inlet air filter, and hose connecting valve cover to air cleaner assembly, (vacuum vapor harness connection).
NOTE: PCV valve should only be replaced with valve designed for this system.
