Service Procedure

1. Turn wheels to the full right position to allow for easier access to the transmission harness.

2. With the ignition key in the OFF position, disconnect the battery.

Note:
To ensure customer satisfaction, remember to record all radio settings before disconnecting the battery and to reset the electronic memory when you have completed the service procedure.

3. Remove windshield wiper arms.

4. Remove six center cowl cover screws (plastic). Turn two outboard cowl cover screws turn (Figure 1).

Note:
Two outboard screw heads contain "L" shaped hooks (not screw threads) which must be disengaged from the cowl to release cover.

5. Disconnect 3 hood-to-cowl weatherstrip push-in fasteners at each shock tower (Figure 2).

6. Remove four "U" clips holding cover to cowl, then disconnect eight weatherstrip push-in fasteners from center of the cowl (Figure 1). Leave weatherstrip attached to cowl cover.

7. Disconnect the windshield washer hose and wiring to the wiper motor.

8. Remove five wiper motor module attachments and remove the wiper module (Figure 3).

9. Remove fresh air duct. If vehicle is equipped with a 3.5L engine, remove air duct connecting both throttle bodies.

10. Lift release latch attaching the transmission harness to the bracket and slide harness from the bracket (Figure 4). The bracket is mounted on the top right transmission-to-engine bolt/stud assembly.

11. From the left side of the vehicle, locate and remove the nut holding the transmission wiring harness bracket to the top right transmission-to engine bolt/stud assembly (Figure 4).

12. Remove the engine harness from the bracket, then remove and discard the bracket.

13. Remove the transmission vent hoses from the wiring trough (Figure 4).

14. Remove and discard the curved transmission harness plastic trough by first cutting the tape along the side edge of the trough, then pulling transmission wiring out of trough (Figures 5 & 6).

15. Check the harness for any damaged wires due to contact with the right tie rod. Repair as necessary and tape any exposed wiring.

16. Install and position the new convolute sleeve over the section of transmission wiring that was in the trough. Butt one end of the new convolute sleeve against the existing convolute-on the transmission harness. Tape both ends of the new convolute to the transmission harness (Figure 7).

Note:
Make sure all wires are secured inside the new convolute sleeve.

17. Install the new transmission harness bracket onto the top right transmission-to engine bolt/stud assembly and tighten nut securely.

18. Route both the engine harness and the transmission harness around the new bracket (between the new bracket and the engine) as shown in figure 7.

Note:
Make sure that all wiring does NOT come in contact with EGR tube.

19. Secure the upper portion of the transmission harness to the new bracket using a tie strap through the upper bracket hole. Secure the lower portion of the harness and the two transmission vent hoses to the bracket using a tie-strap through the lower bracket hole (Figure 7).

Note:
Make sure that transmission harness is engaged into the "J" clip located on the engine harness.

20. Reinstall fresh air duct. If vehicle is equipped with a 3.5L engine, reinstall air duct connecting both throttle bodies.

21. Reinstall the wiper motor module.

22. Connect the windshield washer hose and wiring to the wiper motor.

23. Reinstall the four "U" clips holding the cover to the cowl, then insert all weatherstrip push-in fasteners.

24. Reinstall the cowl cover.

25. Reinstall the windshield wiper arms.

26. Reconnect battery.
