Headlamp Aiming - Procedure/Revised
NO.: 08-08-93 Rev. AGROUP: Electrical
DATE: Apr. 8, 1993
SUBJECT:
Headlamp Aiming Procedure
NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN SUPERSEDES TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 08-08-93, WHICH SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM YOUR FILES. AN ADDITIONAL ILLUSTRATION HAS BEEN HAS BEEN ADDED FOR THE LHS/NEW YORKER. ALL REVISIONS ARE HIGHLIGHTED WITH **ASTERISKS**.
MODELS:
1993 (LH) Concorde/Intrepid/Vision
1994 (LH) LHS/New Yorker
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The visual aiming procedure described in the 1993 Concorde/Intrepid/Vision Service Manual uses the low beam pattern to aim the headlamps. A more accurate method using the high beam pattern has been developed that makes it easier to judge a correctly aimed headlamp.
1. Align the vehicle to the aiming screen as presently described in the service manual.
2. Turn on the headlamps, making sure they are on HIGH BEAM, NOT low beam.
3. Vertical Alignment
The high intensity area of the high beam should be centered about the horizontal line on the screen (slightly higher for LHS/New Yorker) which represents the height of the headlamp at its center. For a normal vehicle without any occupants and a full tank of gas, this height will be:
Vision and Concorde 24.54 in. (623.36 mm.)
Intrepid 25.34 in. (643.72 mm.)
New Yorker/LHS 24.45 in. (621.0 mm.)
Make the vertical adjustment for each lamp using the appropriate adjuster screw as shown in the service manual.
4. Horizontal Alignment
On Intrepid, the high intensity area will be shifted to the right of the vertical centerline of each lamp. On Vision and Concorde, the high intensity area on the passenger side lamp will also be shifted to the right, but the driver side lamp will be centered. On LHS/New Yorker both beams will be shifted slightly left. (See illustrations).
For reference purposes, the location of the vertical centerline of each lamp as measured from the vehicle centerline is as follows:
Vision and Concorde 21.57 in. (548 mm.)
Intrepid 23.31 in. (592 mm.)
New Yorker/LHS 22.32 in. (567 mm.)
Make the horizontal adjustment for each lamp using the appropriate adjuster screw as shown in the service manual.
When finished with steps 3 and 4, the beams should look like the illustrations.
After the above aiming procedure has been completed, the bubble level calibration and decal placement should be checked as described in the service manual.
