ATC - DTC 31 Supplemental Diagnostics

NO.:

GROUP:

SUBJECT:
Supplemental Diagnostic Procedure - Automatic Temperature Control

MODELS:
1993 (LH) Concorde/Intrepid/Vision

DISCUSSION:

Automatic Temperature Control (ATC) diagnostic trouble code 31 (ATC Recirculation Door Stall Failure) may be erroneously set if the ignition is turned to the OFF position while the recirculation door is in motion. This trouble code will not affect the performance of the ATC system.

When diagnosing a vehicle with a diagnostic trouble code 31, it is important to determine if a recirculation door failure exists or if the trouble code was erroneously set. This can be done by following either of the two procedures below.

PROCEDURE 1 - DRB 11 CALIBRATION

1. Start the engine.

2. Using the DRB-II scan tool and the 1993 cartridge, select "Adjustments" from the body controller menu.

3. Select "Recal ATC Doors". The DRB-II scan tool will display "Please Wait While ATC Doors Are Being Recalibrated".

4. After recalibration is complete, read the body controller trouble codes to determine if code 31 (ATC Recirculation Door Stall Failure) is present.

OR

PROCEDURE 2 - ATC CONTROL HEAD DIAGNOSTICS

1. Start the engine.

2. Press and hold the FLOOR, MIX, and DEFROST buttons (at the same time) on the ATC control head until the display begins to flash.

3. The ATC system will go into a test and recalibration mode. When the system has completed this mode, the control head will display any diagnostic trouble codes.

4. Read the trouble codes to determine if code 31 (ATC Recirculation Door Stall Failure) is present. If more that one code is present, it will be necessary to use the PANEL button on the ATC control head to scroll through the codes.

If diagnostic trouble code 31 is still present after performing either of the procedures, an ATC recirculation door problem exists. Refer to the 1993 (LH) Body Diagnostics Procedures Manual, Publication No. 81-699-0317, to diagnose this condition.
