Throttle Body Replacement
EARLY MODEL VEHICLESAir Cleaner And Throttle Body:
REMOVAL
1. Fuel system pressure must be released prior to service. Service and Repair
2. Remove air cleaner and negative battery terminal. Disconnect vacuum hoses to throttle body and electrical connectors.
3. Remove throttle cable, speed control, transmission kickdown cables, and throttle return spring.
4. Remove fuel intake and return hoses, and remove throttle body mounting screws. Lift throttle body from intake manifold and clean old gasket from manifold.
INSTALLATION
1. Install throttle body with new gasket and torque mounting nuts to 20 Nm (175 lb-in).
2. Install fuel intake and return hoses, with new clamps and torque to 1 Nm (10 lb-in).
3. Install return spring, throttle cable, speed control and kickdown cables.
4. Install wiring connectors, vacuum hoses, and air cleaner.
5. Connect negative battery terminal.
6. Using the appropriate tester (DRB II) or equivalent scanner, place ignition switch in "RUN" position and use Actuate Output Test "Auto Shutdown (ASD) Relay", to activate fuel pump and pressurize system.
CAUTION: The ASD relay and the fuel pump relay will remain energized for 7 minutes during this test unless the test is stopped or the ignition switch is turned to the OFF position.
7. Check for leaks.
LATE MODEL VEHICLES
Air Cleaner And Throttle Body:
REMOVAL
1. Fuel system pressure must be released prior to service. Service and Repair
2. Remove air cleaner and negative battery terminal. Disconnect vacuum hoses to throttle body and electrical connectors.
3. Remove throttle cable, speed control, transmission kickdown cables, and throttle return spring.
4. Remove fuel tube clamp
5. Clean the quick connect fittings. Remove intake and return tubes.
6. Remove throttle body mounting screws. Lift throttle body from intake manifold and clean old gasket from manifold.
INSTALLATION
1. Install throttle body with new gasket and torque mounting nuts to 20 Nm (175 lb-in).
2. Install fuel intake and return hoses, with new clamps and torque to 1 Nm (10 lb-in).
3. Install return spring, throttle cable, speed control and kickdown cables.
4. Install wiring connectors, vacuum hoses, and air cleaner.
5. Connect negative battery terminal.
