Pulsair Valve: Description and Operation

Air Injection System:

Aspirator Valve:

SYSTEM OPERATION

The main purpose of this system is to reduce CO and HC emissions. It is composed of an aspirator valve, rubber hoses, reaction tubes, silencer, and hose clamps. The aspirator valve is a one-way spring loaded diaphragm. It acts as a safety feature for the system to protect the rubber hoses from hot exhaust gases when the exhaust system develops high pressure (at cruise or wide open throttle).

The system draws fresh air from the ``clean'' side of the air cleaner and past the aspirator valve. When the valve is open it allows fresh air to mix with the exhaust gases during negative pressure (vacuum) pulses. When the pressure in the exhaust is positive, the valve closes and no exhaust gases are allowed to pass. The aspirator valve works most efficiently at idle and slightly above idle when the negative pulses are maximum. At higher engine speeds the aspirator valve remains closed.
