Compressor Clutch Relay: Description and Operation

Relay Location/Identification:

This relay is controlled by the engine controller and the A/C switch, and is powered by the radiator fan relay. It is in the ENERGIZED (ON) position when the engine is RUNNING, blower motor switch in the ON position, and the A/C control switch is CLOSED.

If the engine controller senses a wide open throttle or low idle speed condition, via the throttle position sensor, it will remove the ground to the radiator fan relay, which will not allow power to get to the A/C clutch relay, preventing A/C clutch engagement.
