Temperature Gauge: Testing and Inspection
1. Run engine until normal operating temperature is reached. Record gauge position.
2. Turn ignition Off and remove temperature gauge assembly from cluster.
Oil Pressure Gauge Pins:
Instrument Cluster With Tachometer:
3. With ignition switch in On position, check for battery voltage across Ignition pin and ground pin.
^ If voltage or ground are missing, check wiring, printed circuit board and connections.
4. Connect an ohmmeter to the temperature sending unit pin and the ground pin.
Gauge Calibration Chart:
5. Compare the ohmmeter reading and previous gauge position with the Gauge Calibration Chart.
Multiple Gauge Malfunction
If the Voltmeter, Speedometer, Tachometer, and other gauges appear to be malfunctioning, proceed as follows:
1. Remove the cluster.
2. Check for ignition voltage at pin E of the red cluster connector.
^ If voltage is not present, repair open circuit.
3. Check for ground continuity between pin C of the red cluster connector.
^ If a good ground is not present, repair open circuit.
4. If circuits are OK and pins or connectors are not distorted, replace the printed circuit board.
