Door End Cap Installation
71. Lower the windows. While holding the door end cap in place, open and close the door to verify the correct contact to the header seal (Fig. 17). Mark the location of the end cap on the door A-pillar.
72. While maintaining the position of the door end cap, drill two 1/8 in. (3.17 mm) holes into the door A-pillar using the holes in the end caps as a locator. Use a 1/2 in. drill stop on the drill bit to limit the drill bit travel.
73. Fold the foam seal provided in half, by sticking it together. Apply a small dab of petroleum jelly on the edge of the foam seal to aid in installation. Then install the foam seal using 3M Weatherstrip Adhesive (08011), between the end cap and door in the notched area (Fig. 18).
74. Attach the door end cap with the two black rivets provided. File the pop rivet mandrels flush if they are protruding. Inspect the door end cap by opening and closing the door again and verify proper function and alignment.
75. Attach the extender to the door surface using 3M Weatherstrip Adhesive (08011). Apply the adhesive on the underside of the extender. Apply clear silicone sealer along the bottom edge of the end cap to prevent water entry.
