Windshield Header Molding, Seal and Garnish Molding Removal
8. Remove the header end cap attaching screws (Fig. 2).
9. Remove the header end cap by unclipping it from the header garnish molding.
10. Remove the windshield A-pillar molding.
11. Remove the sunvisor mounting screws and clips.
12. Remove the sunvisors and disconnect the wires as required.
NOTE:
MARK THE OUTSIDE EDGE OF THE GARNISH MOLDING ON THE HEADER TO LOCATE THE REINFORCEMENT SCREWS TO BE INSTALLED LATER.
13. Remove the header garnish.
14. Remove the dome lamp and disconnect the wire.
15. Remove the header exterior molding nuts and discard.
16. Remove the header exterior molding. Mark the location of clips with a grease pencil on the exterior molding for reference later and then remove and discard the clips.
17. Remove the header corner seal and discard.
18. Remove the sill plate screws and the sill plates.
19. Remove the header seal:
A. Remove the screws from the attaching tab on the header seal.
B. Remove the header seal from the retainer.
C. Remove the header seal forward flange from the roof surface.
D. Remove the header seal from the opening, detach it from the door opening primary seal and discard.
20. Remove the excess tape adhesive from the retainer channel and the header sheet metal under the header exterior molding.
CAUTION:
REMOVE ADHESIVE RESIDUE OR DIRT WITH GREASE AND WAX REMOVER. (SURFACE MUST BE CLEAN AND DRY.)
21. Inspect Steps A and B.
A. The header dimension at both ends of the header sheet metal and the pinch weld cut (Fig. 3). If the header dimension is less than 3.0 in. (75 mm) fore and aft, the header will have to be cut to provide enough space to install the new header seal, go to Step 21B. If the header does not need to be cut, go to Step 27.
B. Measure across the header horizontally 3.0 in. (75 mm) and scribe marks at that location as shown. Make vertical cuts or grind along the scribe marks. (if the A-pillar measurement is greater than 3.0 in. [75 mm] and has a vertical cut, grinding is not required).
22. Cut any metal protrusion from the inside corner of the pinch weld, if present.
NOTE:
APPLY ANTI-CORROSION RUST PROHIBITIVE PAINT TO THE BARE METAL EDGES OF ALL CUT OR GROUND AREAS.
