DISCUSSION:





Ongoing development of the header seal installation procedures has determined that scuffing the body contact surface of the header seal and then cleaning the seal will improve the adhesion between the seal and the two-way tape on the adjacent body surface as shown. This will aid in the prevention of repeat water leaks through the header seal area.


Scuff the surface with a medium grit sandpaper. To clean the header seal, use a cleaning solution such as 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner (08984) or Kent Industries Acrysol (20005) and wipe any residue from the seal.

This procedure should be noted on page 7 of Technical Service Bulletin 23-08-91 and performed whenever header seals are being installed.
