Checking Fluid Level
1. Road test vehicle to bring transmission to normal operating temperature.
2. Park vehicle on level surface with engine at idle, then block wheels and apply parking brake.
3. Move selector lever throughout its full range, then return to Neutral.
4. Pull dipstick from filler tube, clean it, then place it back in filler tube. Remove dipstick again and check fluid level. ``L'' mark on dipstick indicates fluid level is 7/8 pint low.
5. Add Dexron or Dexron II type fluid on 1985 models or Dexron II type fluid on 1986-88 models as necessary.
Changing Fluid
1. Remove front and side oil pan attaching bolts, then loosen the rear oil pan attaching bolts.
2. Carefully pry oil pan loose, and allow fluid to drain into a suitable container.
3. Remove oil pan and gasket, then thoroughly clean all related parts in a suitable solvent.
4. Install oil pan with new gasket, then insert oil pan attaching bolts and torque to 4.4-5.7 ft-lbs.
5. Add Dexron or Dexron II type fluid on 1985 models or Dexron II type fluid on 1986-88 models as required to bring fluid level to ``Full'' mark on dipstick, then move selector lever throughout its full range and return to Neutral position.
6. Add fluid as required.
