Removal
REMOVAL
Special Tools:
1. Raise and support the vehicle Maintenance.
2. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
3. Remove the ABS wheel speed sensor, disconnecting the electrical harness as necessary to remove knuckleFront.
4. Remove the tie rod end nut from the ball stud.
5. Separate the tie rod ball stud (1) from the knuckle with Ball Joint Remover (2).
6. Remove the halfshaft nut (4X4 only).
7. Remove the upper ball joint nut. Separate the ball joint (4) from the knuckle (6) with Ball Joint Remover (5)
CAUTION: When installing puller to separate the ball joint, be careful not to damage the ball joint seal.
8. Support the outboard side of the lower control arm to support vehicle weight.
9. Remove the lower ball joint nut. Separate the ball joint from the knuckle with Ball Joint Remover (2).
10. Remove the steering knuckle (1) from the vehicle.
11. If required, remove the hub/bearing and dust shield from the knuckle (1).
- Remove the three hub/bearing mounting bolts from the steering knuckle (1).
- Slide the hub/bearing out of the steering knuckle (1).
- Remove the brake dust shield.
