Side

SIDE

WARNING: To avoid serious or fatal injury on vehicles equipped with air bags, disable the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, airbag, seat belt tensioner, impact sensor or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the SRS. Failure to take the proper precautions could result in accidental airbag deployment.

WARNING: To avoid serious or fatal injury, never strike or drop the side impact sensor, as it can damage the impact sensor or affect its calibration. The side impact sensor enables the system to deploy the side Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) components. If an impact sensor is accidentally dropped during service, the sensor must be scrapped and replaced with a new unit. Failure to observe this warning could result in accidental, incomplete, or improper side SRS component deployment.

FRONT DOOR

NOTE: Two pressure-type front door side impact sensors are used on all standard cab versions of this vehicle, one each for the left and right sides of the vehicle. These pressure-type impact sensors are also used on club, crew and mega cab versions, but only if they are equipped with the optional seat air bags.

1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable. Wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before further service.
2. Remove the trim panel from the inside of the right or left front door. Front Door Trim Panel - Removal.
3. Disconnect the front door module wire harness connector (3) from the side impact sensor (1) connector receptacle.

5. Remove the side impact sensor from the front door.

B-PILLAR - STANDARD CAB

1. Adjust the driver or passenger side front seat to its most forward position for easiest access to the B-pillar trim.
2. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable. Wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before further service.
3. Remove the trim from the inside of the lower B-pillar. B-Pillar Trim Panel - Removal.
4. Disconnect the body wire harness connector (1) from the side impact sensor (2) connector receptacle.
5. Remove the screw (3) that secures the sensor to the inner B-pillar.
6. Remove the sensor from the inner B-pillar.
