Radiator Cooling Fan Motor Relay: Description and Operation
Relay Locations:
The radiator fan relay, located on the left-hand side of the engine compartment, is controlled by the engine controller. The engine controller applies or removes the ground from the circuit to ENERGIZE or DE-ENERGIZE the relay depending upon the cooling demands of the engine, or if the air conditioning switch is selected. When the coolant temperature reaches a certain temperature, the engine controller applies the ground (ENERGIZES) to the radiator fan relay, enabling the radiator cooling fan to operate. When the engine temperature decreases below the specified temperature, the engine controller removes the ground (DE-ENERGIZES) from the radiator fan relay, disabling the cooling fan. The cooling fan should come on every time the A/C clutch is engaged.
