Throttle Body: Description and Operation

Throttle Body Electrical Connections:

The throttle body assembly is located on the left end of the air intake plenum and houses the throttle plate, throttle position sensor, and the Automatic Idle Speed (AIS) motor. Intake air flow is controlled by the cable operated throttle plate and a separate air by-pass channel is controlled by the AIS motor. Engine idle speed is controlled by the AIS motor adjusting the amount of air passing through the air by-pass channel. At idle the throttle plate is closed.
