Ignition Ballast Resistor: Description and Operation

Ignition Resistor:






The Ignition Resistor is a high wattage resistor used to reduce the voltage applied to the ignition coil when the ignition switch is in the RUN position. When the ignition switch is in the START position the ignition resistor is bypassed, applying full battery voltage to the positive side of the coil.
