Dual Air Pumps

Air Injection System:

Air Injection System:

AIR PUMP

REPAIR

The air injection pumps are non-repairable units, the only serviceable part is the centrifugal filter fan. Do not disassemble or attempt to rebuild the pumps for any reason. If the pumps have been found to be faulty, replace each as a whole unit.

REMOVAL

1. Remove air hose from diverter valve on both upper and lower air pumps.
2. Loosen adjusting bolts and air pump pivot on the upper air pump.
3. Remove drive belt.
4. Loosen and remove lower air pump mounting bolts and remove air pump, diverter valve, and adapter as an assembly.
5. Remove upper air pump mounting bolts and pivot.
6. Remove air pump and diverter valve as an assembly.
7. Remove adapters, pulleys, and diverter valves from air pumps.
8. Clean old gaskets off of the surfaces that will be used again.

INSTALLATION

1. Install adapters, pulleys, and diverter valves onto air pumps. Refer to SPECIFICATIONS for torque values. Always use new gaskets.
2. Install lower air pump assembly and tighten the mounting bolts to specifications. Connect air hose to diverter valve. Refer to SPECIFICATIONS for torque values.
3. Install upper air pump assembly and leave mounting bolts loose for later adjustment. Connect air hose to diverter valve. Refer to SPECIFICATIONS for torque values.
4. Install drive belt and adjust to specifications. Refer to ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES for belt tension specifications.
WARNING: Never pry on the air pump housing to tighten the drive belt.

Removing Centrifugal Filter Fan:

CENTRIFUGAL FILTER FAN

REMOVAL

1. Remove air pumps from vehicle.
2. Remove air pump pulley bolts and remove air pump pulley.
3. Insert a pair of needle nose pliers between the plastic filter fins and break the assembly from the hub. Be sure that no fragments fall into the air pump inlet.
NOTE: Do not try to remove the hub from the air pump, and do not pry between the filter fan and the air pump housing.

Installing Centrifugal Filter Fan:

INSTALLATION

To install the filter fan, use the air pump pulley to draw it into position. Draw the fan down evenly by tightening the bolts evenly. As the filter fan is being drawn into position, make sure that the outer edge of the fan draws into the air pump housing. A slight interference between the air pump housing and the filter fan outer lip is normal and may cause a squeal noise upon initial operation. Do not attempt to install filter fan with a hammer or rubber mallet as the filter is made out of plastic and is very brittle.
