Installation

CAUTION: If original brake shoes are to be reinstalled, they must be installed in their original positions as marked.

1. Position the anti-rattle spring in the lower shoe abutment of the adaptor.
- Be sure that the loop portion of the spring is positioned away from the rotor.
2. Install the lower end of the inboard shoe into the groove provided in the adaptor (against the spring clip).
3. Slide the upper end of the shoe into position.
- Be sure the clip remains in position.

4. Position the outer shoe and lining on the caliper.
- No free play should exist between shoe retaining flanges and machined surfaces on caliper outboard arms (which might cause shoe rattle).
- If the shoe cannot be pressed into place by hand, a C-Clamp may be used.
- If a C-Clamp is used, protect shoe with wooden block as shown.

5. Position the caliper over the brake disc and guide the upper caliper groove into the upper mating adaptor groove.

CAUTION: Be careful not to pull the dust boot from its groove as the piston and boot slide down over the inboard shoe.

6. Position the caliper to the lower adaptor sliding surface.

CAUTION: Make sure the brake hose is not twisted.

7. Place the spring over the caliper key, install the assembly between the adaptor and lower caliper machined surfaces. Tap the assembly into position with brass punch and light hammer).
8. Install the screw and torque to 15 ft. lbs (20.3 Nm).

CAUTION: The boss on the screw must fitfully into the cutout on the key.

9. Reinstall wheel and tire assembly and lower vehicle. Add fluid to master cylinder reservoir to bring fluid level to within 1/4 inch (6.25mm) of the top of the reservoir.
10. Pump brake pedal several times and recheck master cylinder fluid level; replenish if necessary.

WARNING: Do not move vehicle until a firm pedal has been obtained and master cylinder fluid level is correct.
