Fast Idle Adjustment




ROCHESTER QUADRAJET 4 bbl


NOTE: Refer to SPECIFICATIONS for curb and fast idle speeds.


1. Verify ignition timing is properly set, if timing is correct move to step 2, if not go to Ignition Timing Adjustments.
2. Disconnect and plug canister purge hose at canister.
3. Remove PCV valve from valve cover and allow valve to draw underhood air.
4. Connect a suitable tachometer to the engine.
5. Start engine and allow to warm up to normal operating temperature.
6. Remove air cleaner assembly, and plug heated inlet air hose.

Fast Idle Cam:





7. Open throttle slightly and place the fast idle adjusting screw on the second highest step of the fast idle cam.
8. With the choke wide open, rotate the fast idle screw until the correct fast idle rpm is obtained.
9. Return engine to curb idle speed, then place the fast idle adjusting screw back on the second step of the fast idle cam. Check the fast idle rpm and verify that it has not changed. If the rpm has changed readjust, if not go to step 10.
10. Return engine to idle, and shut the engine off.
11. Reconnect all of the vacuum hoses and reinstall the air cleaner.

NOTE: The engine idle speed, after all of the vacuum components are reconnected, may be different from the specified rpm. This is normal and the speed should not be readjusted.
