Rear Cable Replacement

NOTE: The independent wheel brake cables are attached to an equalizer. The front cable is adjusted at the adjusting link.


REMOVAL
1. Remove adjusting nut at adjusting link.
2. With vehicle jacked up or on a suitable hoist, remove rear wheels.
3. Remove brake drums from rear axle.
4. Remove brake shoe return springs.
5. Remove brake shoe retaining springs.
6. Remove brake shoes, strut and spring from brake support plate and disconnect brake cable from operating arm.

NOTE: Use a small hose clamp to compress clamp where it enters backing plate to remove.

7. Compress retainers on end of brake cable housing and remove cable from brake plate.
8. Remove retaining clip at anchor.
9. Disconnect brake cable from the equalizer.

INSTALLATION
1. Insert brake cable and housing into anchor and install retaining clip.
2. Insert brake cable and housing into brake support plate making certain the housing retainers lock housing firmly into place.
3. Holding brake shoes (and strut, if so equipped.) in place on the support table, engage brake cable into brake shoe operating lever.
4 Install brake shoe retaining springs and brake shoe return springs.
5. Insert front of brake cable into the equalizer.
6. Install brake drum and wheel.
7. Adjust service brakes and parking brake cable.
