Low Oil Pressure Warning Lamp

The diagnosis found here addresses and inoperative lamp condition. If the problem being diagnosed is related to lamp accuracy, be certain to confirm that the problem is with the lamp and not with the engine oiling system. The actual engine oil pressure should be checked with a test gauge before you proceed with lamp diagnosis.

1. Turn the ignition switch to the On position. Disconnect the oil pressure sending unit connector. Install a jumper wire between the oil pressure switch sense circuit cavity of the sending unit connector and a a good ground. The lamp should light. Remove the jumper wire and the lamp should go off. If OK, replace the faulty sending unit. If not OK, go to step 2.

2. Turn the ignition switch to the Off position. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Remove the instrument cluster bezel and the cluster assembly. Disconnect the cluster printed circuit 2 connector.

3. Probe the oil pressure switch sense circuit cavity of the printed circuit 2 connector and check for continuity to a good ground. There should be no continuity. If OK, go to Step 4. If not OK, repair the short circuit as required.

4. Check for continuity between the oil pressure switch sense circuit cavities of the printed circuit 2 connector and the sending unit wire connector. There should be continuity. If OK, replace the faulty bulb. If not OK, repair the open circuit as required.
