Fuel Injector: Service and Repair


1. Remove surge tank as follows:
a. Disconnect battery ground cable.
b. Drain coolant and remove accelerator cable from throttle body.
c. Remove air cleaner and PVC hose from throttle body.
d. Remove oil cooler and water pump hose from throttle body.
e. Remove brake booster hose from surge tank.
f. Disconnect the following hoses; air cleaner atmospheric pressure VSV, pressure regulator, BVSV, A/C fast idle device and blow by gas.
g. Disconnect the following connectors; idle-up VSV, EGR VSV, intake air temperature sensor, throttle position sensor and cold start injector.
h. Remove fuel hose from cold start injector.
i. Remove surge tank stay.
j. Remove wiring retaining clamp bolt from rear of surge tank.
k. Remove EGR pipe.
l. Remove surge tank.
2. Remove fuel hose to fuel delivery pipe.
3. Disconnect fuel return hose from pressure regulator.
4. Remove delivery pipe. Remove pressure regulator from delivery pipe.
5. Remove injectors.
6. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following torque specifications:
a. Torque delivery pipe in two or three steps to 7.2-11.6 ft. lbs.
b. Torque fuel hose to delivery pipe union bolts using a new gasket to 25-33 ft. lbs.
c. Torque fuel hose to fuel filter union bolt using a new gasket to 25.3-32.5 ft. lbs.
d. Torque surge tank bolts in two or three steps to 10.8-15.9 ft. lbs.
