Shift Cable: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Disconnect the shift control cable from the selector lever.





3. Disconnect the shift control cable from the bracket.
4. Remove the right and the left front lower trim panels, the shift control panel and the floor console.





5. Loosen the pinch bolt nut on the shift control lever.





6. Remove the shift control cable from the shift control assembly by holding one nut while loosening the other one.





7. Pull the shift control cable through the fire wall of the vehicle, bringing the rubber grommet with it.

Installation Procedure





1. Push the shift control cable through the fire wall of the vehicle and install the rubber grommet.





2. Install the brass housing and the nut onto the opposite end of the shift control cable.
3. Install the shift control cable into the shift control assembly.





4. Install the shift control attachment nut onto the shift control assembly.
Tighten
Tighten the shift control cable attachment nut to 6 Nm (53 inch lbs.).





5. Insert the shift control cable into the connecting slot on the shift control lever and secure it with the pinch bolt and nut.
Tighten
Tighten the shift control cable adjustment pinch bolt nut to 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.).





6. Install the shift control cable into the engine compartment bracket and secure with the clip.





7. Install the shift control cable onto the selector lever and secure it with the clip.
8. Perform a control cable adjustment.
9. Install the floor console, the shift control panel, and the right and the left lower trim panels.
10. Connect the negative battery cable.
