Front Half Shaft, Outer Boot - Installation







INSTALLATION

Special Tools:











1. Install a new circlip into the groove on the interconnecting shaft.
2. Position clamps in the groove on the new boot (1).
3. Slide the new boot (1) onto the interconnecting shaft (4) until the raised bead on the inside of the boot is in the groove (3) on interconnecting shaft.

4. Align splines on interconnecting shaft with splines on CV joint hub and push the CV joint onto interconnecting shaft.




5. If Necessary, install hub nut (4) on the stub axle to protect the end of the stub axle.

NOTE: Ensure the circlip compresses inside the inner race before it is tapped on.

6. Install CV joint onto interconnecting shaft by using a plastic or brass hammer (1) to tap the end of the stub axle (2) until CV joint (3) is fully seated on the interconnecting shaft.






NOTE: The CV joint must be installed on interconnecting shaft until the splined hub (2) in the CV joint (3) is seated on the interconnecting shaft (1).





7. Open one end of the grease envelope provided with the new boot.
8. Apply 1/2 of the grease provided No other grease is recommended into CV joint housing around the balls. Apply the remainder inside the sealing boot (4)
9. Position small crimp clamp (3) evenly into boot recess (4).
10. Place the crimping tool (1) (C-4975A) over the bridge portion of the clamp.





11. Tighten the bolt on the Crimping Tool (C-4975A) until the jaws on tool (2) are closed and the clamp (1) is crimped.

12. Loosed crimping bolt on the tool and separate the tool from the clamp.





NOTE: The boot must not be deformed in any way. If the boot is deformed, lift the boot from its seat on the CV joint to allow air inside and shape the boot to proper form.

13. Position outer CV joint boot (4) into its retaining groove on outer CV joint. Position the large crimp clamp (1) evenly on the boot recess.
14. Place the crimping tool (3) (C-4975A) over the bridge portion of the clamp (1).





15. Tighten the bolt on the Crimping Tool (3) (C-4975A) until the jaws on tool (4) are closed and the clamp (1) is crimped.

16. Loosed crimping bolt on the tool and separate the tool from the clamp.
17. Install the halfshaft in the vehicle. Half Shaft - Installation
