Poor Or No AM/FM Audio Reception







DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING - POOR OR NO AM/FM AUDIO RECEPTION

Diagnostic Test

1. CHECK THE ANTENNA CONNECTION
1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Disconnect the Audio Antenna white connector at the Radio.
3. Inspect the Audio Antenna connection.

Is the Antenna connection clean and secure?

Yes

- Go To 2

No

- Repair the Antenna connection as needed.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

2. CHECK THE RADIO
1. Connect the (9977-6-FM) to the Antenna connection on the back of the Radio.
2. Place the magnetic antenna on the roof of the vehicle (JS41) on the Decklid (JS27).
3. Drive the vehicle outside to a clear un-obstructed overhead view.
4. Turn the ignition on.
5. Turn the Radio on and set it to AM or FM band.
6. Tune into several AM or FM stations.

Is the audio reception still poor or not available?

Yes

- Replace the Radio. Radio - Removal.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

No

- Go To 3

3. TEST THE ANTENNA BASE
1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Lower the headliner to gain access to the Antenna base. (JS41)

NOTE: Be extremely careful not to pull too hard on the headliner which could cause it to be damaged.

3. Remove the Decklid liner to gain access the Antenna base. (JS27)
4. Disconnect the white Antenna cable connector at the base.
5. Connect the (9977-6-FM) to the white Antenna cable connector at the Antenna base.
6. Place the magnetic antenna on the roof of the vehicle (JS41) on the Decklid (JS27).
7. Drive the vehicle outside to a clear un-obstructed overhead view.
8. Turn the ignition on.
9. Turn the Radio on and set it to AM or FM band.
10. Tune into several AM or FM stations.

Is the audio reception still poor or not available?

Yes

- Go To 4

No

- Replace the Antenna base. Antenna - Removal.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

4. TEST THE ANTENNA CABLE




1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Disconnect the (9977-6-FM) from the Antenna cable.
3. Connect the appropriate (9977-6-4)(1) or (9977-6-2) (1) to the Antenna cable (2) at the Antenna base.





4. Connect the appropriate (9977-6-1) (1) or (9977-6-3) (1) to the Antenna cable (2) at the back of the Radio.
5. Measure the Resistance across the tool terminals.

Is the resistance above 52.5 or below 47.5 Ohms?

Yes

- Go To 5

No

- The source of the poor reception is not caused by the Radio, Antenna cable or the Antenna base.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

5. TEST THE ANTENNA CABLE FROM THE RADIO TO INLINE CONNECTOR




1. Disconnect the appropriate (9977-6-4)or (9977-6-2) from the Antenna cable at the Antenna base.
2. Remove the Glove Box to access the Audio Antenna inline connector and disconnect it. Instrument Panel Glove Box - Removal.
3. Connect the appropriate (9977-6-4) (1) or (9977-6-2) (1) to the side of the Antenna cable (2) that leads to the Radio.





4. Measure the Resistance across the tool terminals.

Is the resistance above 52.5 or below 47.5 Ohms?

Yes

- Replace the section of Antenna cable from the Radio to inline connector.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

No

- Go To 6

6. TEST THE ANTENNA CABLE FROM THE INLINE CONNECTOR TO THE ANTENNA BASE




1. Disconnect the appropriate (9977-6-1) or (9977-6-3) from the rear of the Radio.
2. Disconnect the appropriate (9977-6-4) (1) or (9977-6-2) (1) from the side of the Antenna cable (2) that leads to the Radio.
3. Connect the appropriate (9977-6-4) (1) or (9977-6-2) (1) to the side of the Antenna cable (2) that leads to the Antenna base.

4. Connect the appropriate (9977-6-1) (1) or (9977-6-3) (1) to the Antenna cable (2) at the Antenna base.




5. Measure the Resistance across the tool terminals.

Is the resistance above 52.5 or below 47.5 Ohms?

Yes

- Replace the section of Antenna cable from the inline connector to the Antenna base.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

No

- The source of the poor reception is not caused by the Radio, Antenna cable or the Antenna base.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.
