INSTALLATION

CAUTION: When supporting or lifting the transmission at the oil pan the weight of the transmission must be distributed evenly on the lifting fixture. Failure to do so could damage the oil pan and transmission.

NOTE: Make sure that the transmission dowel pins are seated in engine block and protrude far enough to hold transmission in alignment.

1. Install the torque converter Torque Converter - Installation.




2. For AWD only, position the extension housing (2), install the seven bolts (1) and tighten to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.).





3. For RWD only, position the adapter bracket (4), install the adapter bracket bolts (1) and tighten to 33 Nm (24 ft. lbs.).
4. For RWD only, position the rear transmission mount (3), install the transmission mount bolts (2) and tighten to 33 Nm (24 ft. lbs.).





5. For AWD only, position the adapter bracket (2), install the adapter bracket bolts (3) and tighten to 33 Nm (24 ft. lbs.).
6. For AWD only, position the rear transmission mount (4), install the rear transmission mount bolts (1) and tighten to 33 Nm (24 ft. lbs.).





7. Verify that the rubber access plugs (1) are installed in the front of the transmission.






NOTE: Hold torque converter in place during transmission installation.

8. Position the transmission to the vehicle.
9. Install the upper bell housing bolts (1, 2) securing the bell housing to the engine block. Do not tighten at this time.





10. Install the LH bell housing bolts (1). Do not tighten at this time.





11. Install the RH bell housing bolts (1). Tighten all the bell housing bolts to 55 Nm (41 ft. lbs.)





12. Rotate crankshaft in clockwise direction to line up the alignment hole (1) in the flex plate, then start the first bolt.





13. Rotate crankshaft in clockwise direction until converter bolts (1) are accessible. There are three sets of two bolts 120° apart. Install the remaining bolts and tighten to 42 Nm (31 ft. lbs.).





14. Position the crossmember, install the bolts (1) to the frame and tighten to 65 Nm (48 ft. lbs.).
15. Install the bolts (2) securing rear support and cushion to the cross member and tighten to 65 Nm (48 ft. lbs.).





16. Remove the transmission jack (1).





17. Connect transmission fluid cooler lines (1) at transmission fittings (2) and install the clips (3).





18. Position the manual park release cable bracket/cable (2, 3), install the bolts (1) and tighten to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).





19. Connect the parking pawl release cable (1) to the lever (2).

20. Connect the negative battery cable.
21. Connect the right and left bank up stream oxygen sensors.
22. Install the complete exhaust system.
23. Install the transfer case if equipped BW 44-40 Transfer Case - Installation.
24. Install the rear propeller shaft (RWD) Propeller Shaft - Installation.
25. Install the starter Starter - Installation.





26. Connect the adapter plug connector (1) to the transmission.





27. Turn the locking mechanism lock (1) of the adapter plug connector (2) clockwise to secure.
