HELP USING THE wiTECH DIAGNOSTIC APPLICATION FOR FLASHING AN ECU IS AVAILABLE BY SELECTING "HELP" THEN "HELP CONTENTS" AT THE TOP OF THE wiTECH DIAGNOSTIC APPLICATION WINDOW.
THE wiTECH SOFTWARE LEVEL MUST BE AT RELEASE 12.02 OR HIGHER TO PERFORM THIS PROCEDURE.
SUBJECT:
Flash: Shifter Knob Illumination Too Bright Compared To Cluster And Or Radio
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves flash reprogramming the Electronic Shift Module (ESM) with new software.
NOTE:
After the reprogramming there will be active and stored codes that must be cleared. Refer to the Repair Procedure for proper steps.

NOTE:
This Service Bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a 3.6L engine (sales code ERB) and an 8 speed automatic transmission (sales code DFG) built before December14, 2011 (MDH 1214XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Some customers may notice that the shift knob illumination is brighter then the illumination of the Radio or the Instrument Cluster.
This condition was corrected by implemented the same illumination strategy as used by the Instrument Cluster and Radio. Updating the ESM with new software will correct this condition.
DIAGNOSIS:
Using a Scan Tool (wiTECH(TM)) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures available in TechCONNECT, verify no DTC's are set. If DTC's are present record them on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with this bulletin.
If the customer describes the symptom, perform the Repair Procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
NOTE:
Install a battery charger to ensure battery voltage does not drop below 13.2 volts. Do not allow the charging voltage to climb above 13.5 volts during the flash process.
NOTE:
If this flash process is interrupted/aborted, the flash should be restarted.
1. Use the wiTECH Diagnostic Application to reflash the ESM. Help using the wiTECH Diagnostic Application for flashing the ESM is made available through the wiTECH Diagnostic Application. For instructions select the "HELP tab on upper portion of the wiTECH window, then "HELP CONTENTS. This will open the Welcome to wiTECH Help screen where help topics can be selected.
2. Turn ignition switch off.
NOTE:
This will allow the active codes to become stored.
3. Turn ignition switch on.
4. Clear any DIG's that may have been set in all modules due to reprogramming. The wiTECH application will automatically present all DTCs after the flash and allow the tech to clear them.
