REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Position the mirror glass case (1) into the full downward position on both exterior mirror assemblies (Fig. 1).
2. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
WARNING:
Always wear eye and hand protection when servicing the mirror glass. Failure to observe these warnings may result in personal injury from broken glass.
3. Place thumbs behind mirror glass case (1) and push out from the mirror assembly (2). This will disengage the mirror glass case's top snap attachment features (Fig. 1).
4. If equipped, disconnect the blind spot indicator and heater wires (3) by pulling on thumb tabs (Fig. 1).
5. Disconnect the mirror glass motor electrical connector (4) (Fig. 1).
6. Remove the mirror glass case (1) from the glass motor by pulling up and out. This will disengage the "hook" feature at the bottom of the mirror glass case assembly (2) (Fig. 2).
7. Remove the mirror glass.
8. Using a flat head screw driver, pliers or equivalent, disengage the mirror shell cap outboard retaining tabs (1) (Fig. 3).
9. Using a flat head screw driver, apply downward pressure to the bottom retaining tab (2) (Fig. 3).
10. Push with the screw driver and pull on the shell cap with your opposite hand creating a gap between the mirror housing and the shell cap.
NOTE:
Use caution when removing the mirror cap, retainer tabs may break during cap removal.
NOTE:
In the event that the mirror cap retainer tabs were broken during a previous disassembly, a piece of double sided adhesive tape would have been added between the mirror cap and shell to improve retention. If the tape is present it will make the amount of force needed to remove the cap higher.
11. Continue to pull on the shell cap using both hands as necessary until the cap detaches from the mirror assembly and remove the shell cap.
12. Remove the fastener (1) securing the turn signal lamp (2) (Fig. 4).
13. Remove the turn signal lamp (1), disconnect the connector (2) and remove it from the mirror housing (Fig. 5).
14. Connect the new turn signal connector block into mirror wire harness and route wires under bracket retaining tab (3) (Fig. 5).
15. Insert the new turn signal (1) into mirror housing by sliding the tab (2) under the shell housing slot (3) and re-secure it to the housing using the retaining fastener (4) (Fig. 6).
NOTE:
Fully seat the retaining fastener to 12 to 18 in/lbs.
NOTE:
Inspect the mirror shell cap (2) (Fig. 7) for any possible handling damage to the exterior of the shell and/or distortion or damage to the inner retaining tabs. If any damage has occurred to the exterior side of the shell it must be replaced.
16. Apply double sided tape (1) to mirror shell as shown if any retaining tabs are broken or distorted (Fig. 7).
NOTE:
If several inner shell cap retaining tabs are broken off the shell must be replaced.
17. Reinstall the shell cap onto the mirror housing and make sure it is fully seated.
18. Reinstall the lower portion of the mirror glass case to motor by pushing the lower glass case "hooks" (1) into place (Fig. 8).
19. If equipped, reconnect the blind spot indicator and heater wires.
20. Reconnect the mirror motor glass electrical connector.
CAUTION:
Make sure wires are not caught between the glass case and the motor.
21. Swing the mirror glass case up and push until the upper glass case snaps (2) are fully seated on the motor (Fig. 8).
NOTE:
An audible snap is normal.
22. Repeat Step # 1 through Step # 21 for the opposite side.
