Headlamp Alignment Actuator - Description

DESCRIPTION

Two intelligent stepper motors are located within each front lamp unit on vehicles equipped with Adaptive Forward Lighting System (AFLS), which is standard equipment when this vehicle is equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps. The stepper motor that adjusts the headlamp beams up or down is referred to as a leveling motor. The stepper motor that adjusts the headlamp beams right or left is referred to as the swiveling motor.

The motors are enclosed within the front lamp unit housing for protection and are connected to the vehicle electrical system through the front lamp unit wire harness. Within each motor housing is a 12-volt Direct Current (DC) servo motor, an electronic controller board that includes the motor logic circuits, and an integral screw-drive transmission.

The headlamp leveling and swiveling motors are serviced as a unit with the front lamp unit. These motors cannot be repaired and, if ineffective or damaged, the entire front lamp unit must be replaced.
