Instrument Cluster - Removal
REMOVAL
WARNING: To avoid serious or fatal injury on vehicles equipped with airbags, disable the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, airbag, seat belt tensioner, impact sensor or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the SRS. Failure to take the proper precautions could result in accidental airbag deployment.
CAUTION: If replacing the cluster, take note of the mileage before disconnecting the battery, so the replacement cluster can be programmed with the correct mileage.
CLUSTER ASSEMBLY
1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
2. Pull the instrument panel upper hood (2) toward the driver seat to release the clips, and separate the hood from the instrument panel.
3. Using a trim stick, remove the two small trim panels (3) on both sides of the steering column opening.
4. Remove the steering column cover, Steering Column Opening Cover - Removal.
5. Release the clips, and position aside the steering column opening seal (4) to gain access to the instrument cluster fasteners.
6. Remove the upper (1) and lower (3) fasteners securing the cluster (2) to the instrument panel.
7. Tilt the cluster forward, and disconnect the cluster electrical connector.
8. Remove cluster from instrument panel.
CLUSTER LENS, HOOD, AND MASK
1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the instrument cluster assembly (1) from the instrument panel 1.
3. Working around the perimeter disengage the latches (3), and remove the instrument cluster lens, hood, and mask assembly (4).
4. Remove the lens, hood, and mask assembly from the instrument cluster body (2).
5. Working around the perimeter of the left or right inner hood assemblies, disengage each of the latches that secure the panels to the cluster body.
