Outside Rearview Mirror Glass - Removal
REMOVAL
GLASS
WARNING: Always wear eye and hand protection when servicing the mirror glass. Failure to observe these warnings may result in personal injury from broken glass.
1. Push mirror glass case (2) into full down position
2. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
3. Place thumbs behind mirror glass case (2) and push out from the mirror assembly (1). This will disengage the mirror glass case's snap attachment feature.
4. If equipped, disconnect the blind spot indicator and heater wires (1) by pulling on thumb tabs.
5. Disconnect the mirror motor glass electrical connector (2).
6. Remove the mirror glass case (1) from the glass motor by pulling up and out. This will disengage the "hook" feature at the bottom of the mirror glass case assembly (1).
MIRROR CAP
NOTE: Use caution when removing the mirror cap, retainer tabs may break during cap removal.
NOTE: In the event that the mirror cap retainer tabs were broken during a previous disassembly, a piece of double sided adhesive tape would have been added between the mirror cap and shell to improve retention. If the tape is present it will make the amount of force needed to remove the cap higher.
1. Remove the mirror glass.
2. Using a flat head screw driver, pliers or equivalent, disengage the mirror cap outboard snaps (1).
3. Using a flat head screw driver, apply downward pressure to the bottom snap (1).
4. Push with the screw driver and pull on the cap with your opposite hand creating a gap between the shell and the shell cap.
5. Continue to pull on the cap using both hands as necessary until the cap breaks away from the shell.
