Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC)
U1601-00-ECU APPLICATION SOFTWARE CODE 1 MISSING OR CORRUPTED
For a complete wiring diagram, refer to the Wiring Information.
Theory of Operation
When powered, during flash programming of the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) experienced an interruption of the programming procedure due to a software or hardware failure. The repair of this fault centers on verifying the ORC completed successfully the flash programming process completely. The flash programming process is asked to run again in the diagnostics written to possibly clear the internal hardware or software failure.
- When Monitored:
Throughout the complete flash programming of the ORC module.
- Set Condition:
This DTC sets when the ORC detects a failure of the flash programming process in the bootloader mode not allowing the ORC module to enter the application mode. This DTC will not set as a Stored Code.
Always perform the Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding. Restraints System Pre-Diagnostic Procedure.
1. DETERMINE ACTIVE DTC
NOTE: Make sure the battery is fully charged.
1. Turn the ignition on.
2. Wait 12 seconds, then with the scan tool, read all active ORC DTCs.
Is DTC U1601-00-ECU APPLICATION SOFTWARE CODE 1 MISSING OR CORRUPTED set?
Yes
- Go To 2
2. PERFORM THE ORC MODULE FLASH PROGRAMMING PROCEDURE
NOTE: Make sure the battery is fully charged.
NOTE: Service replacement ORC modules are shipped in a LOCKED OUT state and after installed will set a ORC UNLOCKED - ALL DEPLOYMENT DISABLED fault. Use a diagnostic scan tool to access the ORC module and go to the MISCELLANEOUS FUNCTIONS menu item to perform the MODULE INITIALIZATION procedure to erase the fault and initialize the new replacement ORC
1. Perform the ORC Module Flash Programming procedure.
Did the ORC Module flash programming procedure run 100 percent completely?
Yes
- Perform the Restraints System Verification Test. Restraints System Verification Test
No
- Go To 3
3. REPEAT THE ORC MODULE FLASH PROGRAMMING PROCEDURE
1. Perform the ORC Module Flash Programming procedure.
Did the ORC Module flash programming procedure run 100 percent completely?
Yes
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Restraints System Verification Test.
No
- WARNING: If the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to take the proper precautions can result in accidental airbag deployment. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- WARNING: Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Replace the ORC. Occupant Restraint Controller - Removal
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Restraints System Verification Test.
