P0815-2A-UPSHIFT SWITCH - STUCK

For a complete wiring diagram, refer to the Wiring Information.

Theory of Operation

The paddle shifters are integral to the remote radio switches. The paddle shifters in the two remote radio switch units are normally open, resistor multiplexed momentary switches that are hard wired to the right steering wheel switch (speed control switch). The right steering wheel switch (speed control switch) provides a five volt signal and return circuit to the switches. Both switches share the signal and return circuits. The right steering wheel switch (speed control switch) senses the status of the switches by reading the voltage drop of the signal circuit.

When the right steering wheel switch (speed control switch) senses an input (voltage drop) from any one of the paddle shifters, it communicates the switch status message to the steering column control module (SCCM) via the LIN Bus (through the clockspring). The SCCM then broadcasts switch status information over the CAN Bus to the transmission control module (TCM) communicating driver request for transmission upshift or downshift.

- When Monitored:
With the ignition on.

- Set Condition:
The Upshift Switch has been pressed for greater than 20 seconds.

1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC)

NOTE: Before proceeding with the diagnostic procedure, verify that the connections are properly made, properly seated and verify proper pin terminal tension. A loose connection at any of SCCM connectors may cause the DTC to set.

1. Turn the ignition on.
2. Press the Upshift Switch twice in all directions.
3. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

Does the scan tool display this DTC as active?

Yes

- Go To 2

No

- Test complete, the condition or conditions that originally set this DTC are not present at this time. Using the wiring diagrams as a guide, check all related splices and connectors for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, pushed out or bent terminals, and correct pin tension.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

2. RIGHT REMOTE RADIO SWITCH (PADDLE SHIFTER)

NOTE: Check for a stuck Upshift Switch. Repair as necessary.

1. With the scan tool, view the switch status. Status can be viewed in the SCCM data display.
2. While monitoring the Upshift Switch status with the scan tool, actuate the switch multiple times.

Does the scan tool display the correct status of the switch in the data display?

Yes

- Test complete, the condition or conditions that originally set this DTC are not present at this time. Using the wiring diagrams as a guide, check all related splices and connectors for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, pushed out or bent terminals, and correct pin tension.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

No

- WARNING: Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
WARNING: Do not place an intact non-deployed airbag face down on a hard surface, the airbag propels into the air if accidentally deployed. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
NOTE: Visually and physically inspect the wiring harness between the Remote Radio Switch harness connectors and the Right Steering Wheel Switch (Speed Control Switch) harness connector. Repair any damaged wires, connectors, and open/spread terminals. If harness is OK, proceed with test.

- Replace the Right Remote Radio Switch. Remote Radio Switches - Removal.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.
