P06AC-PCM/ECM/TCM INTERNAL TEMPERATURE SENSOR 2 PERFORMANCE
For a complete wiring diagram Refer to the Wiring Information.
Theory of Operation
The purpose of the monitoring is to detect a fault in more than one of three temperature sensors. The transmission has three different temperature sensors. If any one of the three sensors fails, then the other two sensors are used as substitute with no impact on transmission control, operation or monitoring. Therefore a fault is only set on a multiple sensor failure. The three sensors consist of a discrete analog sensor outside the Transmission Control Module (TCM) which is located in the oil sump of the transmission (Oil Temperature Sensor) and two substrate (or chip) temperature sensors located in different positions on the TCM. As the TCM is embedded in the molded wiring harness leadframe, all temperatures have a strong correlation. Normally the oil temperature is used for the control of the transmission. Substrate temperatures are only used for over-temperature shutdown and rationality monitoring.
- When Monitored:
Continuously after the ignition switch is turned to the run position.
The engine speed or input speed signal has to be above a calibrated threshold.
- Set Condition:
The failure is detected if more than one of three temperature sensors indicates a malfunction. Temperature out of valid range and/or rationality to other temperature sensors.
Always perform the Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding. 8HP45 Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting Procedure
1. CHECK FOR RELATED TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE DTCS
1. With the scan tool, read transmission DTCs.
Are any Transmission Fluid Temperature DTCs present?
Yes
- Testing and Inspection Perform the appropriate repair for those DTCs first.
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Verification Tests.
No
- Go To 2
2. TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE ASSEMBLY (TCMA)
If there are no possible causes remaining, view repair.
Repair
- Using the schematics as a guide, check the TCMA terminals for corrosion, damage or terminal push out. Pay particular attention to power and ground circuits. Check Service Information Tune-ups or Service Bulletins for possible causes that may apply. If the DTC returns, replace and program the TCMA. Valve Body - Removal.
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Verification Tests.
