P062F

P062F-INTERNAL CONTROL MODULE EEPROM ERROR

For a complete wiring diagram Refer to the Wiring Information.

Theory of Operation

The purpose of the diagnostic is to detect if the Electronic Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EEPROM) data has been corrupted or access to the data is not possible anymore. If the access is not possible anymore the Flash Control Unit (FCU) ASIC sets a hardware failure. The corruption of the data is detected by calculating a checksum and comparing it to a reference value. The EEPROM includes all data that can change from transmission to transmission but has to be stored in non-volatile memory (e.g. fault memory, customer specific data such as part numbers, etc). The physical EEPROM emulation memory in flash is sub divided into several sector groups. Each sector group holds one set of data that was stored at the moment of an update. If all sector groups are filled, the sector group with the oldest set of data is used for the update. Updating the sector group results in erasing the entire sector group memory and then programming the current data to it. To always ensure a valid backup of the EEPROM data, at least 2 non-defective sector groups are needed. Each sector group is checksum protected and the validity of the checksum is verified before reading and after writing the data.

- When Monitored:
An EEPROM read or write operation has occurred. The EEPROM is always read during TCM power-up and always written before power-down.

- Set Condition:
The failure is detected if less than two sector groups with a valid checksum remain or the FCU ASIC reports a hardware failure indicating access to the flash memory is not possible anymore.

Always perform the Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding. 8HP45 Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting Procedure

CHECK IF TCM IS PROGRAMMABLE
1. With the scan tool, record the vehicles controller part number.
2. Select Use Controller Part Number under the Flash Tab.
3. Flash the TCM with the latest software.

Were you able to program (flash) the TCM successfully?

Yes

- Test Complete.
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Verification Tests.

No

- Using the schematics as a guide, check the Transmission Control Module A (TCMA) connector terminals for corrosion, damage or terminal push out. Pay particular attention to all power and ground circuits. If no problems are found, replace and program the TCMA. Valve Body - Removal.
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Verification Tests.
