Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC)
B222A-VEHICLE LINE MISMATCH
For a complete wiring diagram, refer to the Wiring Information.
Theory of Operation
When powered, the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) performs an internal self test. The repair of this fault centers on verifying the ORC and Body Control Module (BCM) configuration.
- When Monitored:
The ORC checks its feature configuration for a stored Vehicle Line and Country Code continuously 12 seconds after initialization. The monitoring is continuous and repeats at a rate of every 500 ms.
- Set Condition:
This DTC sets when the ORC detects a mismatch between the Vehicle Configuration and the ORC configuration for four seconds. Once the code sets in this ignition cycle it stays active for this ignition cycle.
Always perform the Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding. Restraints System Pre-Diagnostic Procedure.
1. DETERMINE ACTIVE OR STORED DTC
NOTE: Make sure the battery is fully charged.
1. Turn the ignition on.
2. Wait 12 seconds, then with the scan tool, read all active ORC DTCs.
Is the DTC active or stored?
ORC - ACTIVE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC)
- Go To 2
ORC - STORED DTC
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST. Restraints System Intermittent Condition Test.
2. CHECK BCM COUNTRY CODE AND VEHICLE LINE
1. Using the scan tool, check for the correct Country Code, Vehicle Line, and Body Style.
Does the Vehicle Configuration in the BCM match the Vehicle Configuration in the ORC?
Yes
- WARNING: If the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to take the proper precautions can result in accidental airbag deployment. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- WARNING: Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Replace the ORC. Occupant Restraint Controller - Removal.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Restraints System Verification Test.
No
- Configure the BCM.
NOTE: The ORC Reset Function must be performed after the repair to force the module to retest for this DTC. Access the Diagnostic Procedures menu from the ORC ECU Overview screen on the scan tool to perform this operation.
