B1ED2-11

B1ED2-11-REAR SUN SHADE SWITCH - CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND

For a complete wiring diagram, refer to the Wiring Information.

Theory of Operation

The Rear Sun Shade switch is a momentary switch connected to the Body Control Module (BCM). The BCM provides a reference voltage on the Rear Sun Shade switch sense circuit through a pull-up resistor that is connected to battery voltage. The Rear Sun Shade Switch switches the Rear Sun Shade Switch Signal sense circuit to ground when the button is pressed.

- When Monitored:
Continuously.

- Set Condition:
When the BCM detects that the (Q558) Rear Sun Shade Switch Signal circuit is low for more than one second.

1. TEST FOR INTERMITTENT CONDITION
1. With the scan tool, record and erase the DTCs.
2. Operate the Rear Sun Shade Switch several times.
3. Turn the ignition on and wait 30 seconds.
4. With the scan tool, the read DTCs.

Does the scan tool display DTC: B1ED2-11-REAR SUN SHADE SWITCH - CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND?

Yes

- Go To 2

No

- Test complete, the condition or conditions that originally set this DTC are not present at this time. Using the wiring diagrams as a guide, check all related splices and connectors for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, pushed out or bent terminals, and correct pin tension.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

2. CHECK THE REAR SUN SHADE SWITCH FOR AN INTERNAL SHORT
1. With the scan tool, record and erase the DTCs.
2. Turn the ignition off.
3. Disconnect the Rear Sun Shade Switch harness connector.
4. Turn the ignition on and wait 30 seconds.
5. With the scan tool, read the DTCs.

Does the scan tool display DTC: B1ED2-11-REAR SUN SHADE SWITCH - CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND?

No

- Replace the Rear Sun Shade Switch.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

Yes

- Go To 3

3. CHECK THE (Q558) REAR SUN SHADE SWITCH SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Disconnect the BCM E harness connector.
3. Measure the resistance between ground and the (Q558) Rear Sun Shade Switch Signal circuit at the Rear Sun Shade Switch harness connector.

Is the resistance above 10k Ohms?

Yes

- Replace the Body Control Module. Body Control Module - Removal.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

No

- Repair the short to ground in the (Q558) Rear Sun Shade Switch Signal circuit.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.
