B1E11-11-REAR SUN SHADE CONTROL 1 - CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND

For a complete wiring diagram, refer to the Wiring Information.

Theory of Operation

The Body Control Module (BCM) enables the Rear Sun Shade Module when it receives either a hard wired input from the Rear Sun Shade switch, or a communications network message from the Front Sun Shade switch through the Integrated Center Stack (ICS). The BCM provides a voltage output to command the Sun Shade Module. The Sun Shade Module will either control the sun shade up or down based on the current state of the sun shade. The Sun Shade Module is also connected the Reverse Lamp circuit and lowers the sun shade when the Back-up Lamps are enabled.

- When Monitored:
With the ignition on.

Battery voltage greater than 10 volts.

Sun shade commanded on.

- Set Condition:
If the Body Control Module (BCM) detects an overcurrent condition on the (Q557) Rear Sun Shade Module Signal circuit.

1. TEST FOR INTERMITTENT CONDITION
1. Turn the ignition on.
2. With the scan tool, record and erase DTCs.
3. Operate the Rear Sun Shade switch several times.
4. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

Is the DTC active at this time?

Yes

- Go To 2

No

- Test complete, the condition or conditions that originally set this DTC are not present at this time. Using the wiring diagrams as a guide, check all related splices and connectors for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, pushed out or bent terminals, and correct pin tension.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

2. CHECK THE (Q557) REAR SUN SHADE MODULE SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Disconnect the BCM E harness connector.
3. Disconnect the Rear Sun Shade Module harness connector.
4. Measure the resistance between ground and the (Q557) Rear Sun Shade Module Signal circuit at the Rear Sun Shade Module harness connector.

Is the resistance above 10k Ohms?

Yes

- Go To 3

No

- Repair the short to ground in the (Q557) Rear Sun Shade Module Signal circuit.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

3. CHECK (Q557) REAR SUN SHADE MODULE SIGNAL CIRCUIT FUNCTION

1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Reconnect the BCM E harness connector.
3. Turn the ignition on.
4. Using a 12-volt test light connected to ground, check the (Q557) Rear Sun Shade Module Signal circuit at the Rear Sun Shade Module harness connector.
5. With the scan tool, actuate the Sun Shade Control.

Does the test light illuminate?

Yes

- Replace the Rear Sun Shade Module.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.

No

- Replace the BCM. Body Control Module - Removal.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.
