B1208-15
B1208-15-ANTI-THEFT INDICATOR - CIRCUIT SHORT TO BATTERY OR OPEN
For a complete wiring diagram, refer to the Wiring Information.
Theory of Operation
When the enable conditions are correct, the Body Control Module (BCM) provides a voltage output to the Security Indicator lamp located in the Instrument Cluster. For additional information on the Security Indicator, Instrument Cluster Indicators - Operation.
- When Monitored:
With the ignition on.
With the Security Indicator commanded off.
- Set Condition:
The Body Control Module (BCM) detects a voltage above one volt for less than one second on the (G84) VTA Security Indicator circuit.
1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
1. Turn the ignition on.
2. Wait five seconds.
3. With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Does the scan tool display this DTC as active?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Test complete, the condition or conditions that originally set this DTC are not present at this time. Using the wiring diagrams as a guide, check all related splices and connectors for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, pushed out or bent terminals, and correct pin tension.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.
2. CHECK THE (G84) VTA SECURITY INDICATOR CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Disconnect the Instrument Cluster harness connector.
3. Disconnect the BCM G harness connector.
4. Turn the ignition on.
5. Measure the voltage of the (G84) VTA Security Indicator circuit.
Is there any voltage present?
Yes
- Repair the short to voltage in the (G84) VTA Security Indicator circuit.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.
No
- Go To 3
3. CHECK THE SECURITY INDICATOR LAMP
1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Connect a fused jumper wire between the (G84) VTA Security Indicator circuit and ground in the Instrument Cluster harness connector.
3. Reconnect the BCM G harness connector.
4. Turn the ignition on.
5. With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Does the scan tool display DTC: B1208-11-ANTI-THEFT INDICATOR-CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND?
Yes
- Replace the Instrument Cluster. Instrument Cluster - Removal.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.
No
- Go To 4
4. CHECK THE (G84) VTA SECURITY INDICATOR CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Disconnect the BCM G harness connector.
3. Measure the resistance of the (G84) VTA Security Indicator circuit between the Instrument Cluster harness connector and the BCM G harness connector.
Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Replace the BCM. Body Control Module - Removal.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.
No
- Repair the open in the (G84) VTA Security Indicator circuit.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test.
