B0002-9A-DRIVER FRONTAL SQUIB 2 - COMPONENT OR SYSTEM OPERATING CONDITIONS
For a complete wiring diagram, refer to the Wiring Information.
Theory of Operation
When powered, the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) sends a test current to the Driver Frontal Squib 2 circuits. During this test, the sensors discovered are checked for agreement with the pre-programmed configuration of components assigned to the module.
- When Monitored:
The ORC checks for the presence of Driver Frontal Squib 2 circuits once during the initialization process.
- Set Condition:
This DTC sets when the ORC detects the presence of a Driver Frontal Squib 2 circuit while the configuration of the module does not reflect a Driver Frontal Squib 2 circuit should be present. Once set, this DTC is latched for the entire power cycle and requires the module to be re-initialized to set code.
Always perform the Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding. Restraints System Pre-Diagnostic Procedure.
1. DETERMINE ACTIVE OR STORED DTC
NOTE: Make sure the battery is fully charged.
1. Turn the ignition on.
2. With the scan tool, read ORC DTCs.
Is the DTC active or stored?
ORC - ACTIVE DTC
- Go To 2
ORC - STORED DTC
- Perform RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST. Restraints System Intermittent Condition Test.
2. CHECK UNUSED DRIVER FRONTAL SQUIB 2 CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE, SHORT TO GROUND, OR SHORT TOGETHER
1. Check any unused Driver Frontal Squib 2 circuits for possible short to voltage.
2. Check any unused Driver Frontal Squib 2 circuits for possible short to ground.
3. Check any unused Driver Frontal Squib 2 circuits for possible short together.
Are any of the unused Driver Frontal Squib 2 circuits shorted?
Yes
- WARNING: Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Repair any unused Driver Frontal Squib 2 circuits that are shorted.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST. Restraints System Intermittent Condition Test.
No
- NOTE: Make sure the part number of the replacement module is the correct part number for the vehicle.
WARNING: If the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to take the proper precautions can result in accidental airbag deployment. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
WARNING: Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Replace the ORC. Occupant Restraint Controller - Removal.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Restraints System Verification Test.
