Interior Lighting - Description

DESCRIPTION

The interior lighting system for this vehicle includes both incandescent and Light Emitting Diode (LED) unit lighting on several separate circuits. The lamps in the interior lighting system include:

- Center Floor Console Cup Holder Lamp - The cup holders in the center floor console include as standard equipment two LED units that illuminate a light pipe around the perimeter of the cup holders to assist visibility at night. These lamps are controlled by the panel lamps dimmer circuit and illuminate whenever the exterior lighting is turned ON.
- Center Floor Console Courtesy Lamp - The end cap at the back of the center floor console on convertible models contains an incandescent courtesy lamp that illuminates the rear floor foot wells to assist visibility at night. This lamp is controlled by the courtesy lamp circuit.
- Center Floor Console Storage Bin Lamp - The storage bin in the center floor console on some models is illuminated by an LED lamp unit located in the back of the console bin to assist visibility at night. This lamp is controlled by an integral switch and illuminates whenever the console bin lid is opened.
- Dome Lamps - An incandescent dome lamp is standard on all models except convertibles. The dome lamp is located in the headliner and is controlled by the courtesy lamp circuit. One optional dome lamp adds independent lens-actuated map lamp switching to the courtesy lamp control. Another option is an LED unit dome lamp that features both courtesy lamp control and independent map lamp switching.
- Glove Box Lamp - A standard glove box lamp with a single LED unit and an integral switch is located in the glove box housing of the instrument panel and illuminates whenever the glove box is opened.
- Instrument Panel Center Stack Storage Bin Lamp - The storage bin in the instrument panel center stack at the front of the floor console is illuminated by an LED unit located in the air conditioner and heater control bezel over the top of the bin to assist visibility at night. This lamp is controlled by the panel lamps dimmer circuit and illuminates whenever the exterior lighting is turned ON.
- Trunk Lamp - Four-door models have a standard equipment incandescent trunk lamp that is located in one side of the luggage compartment near the deck lid opening and is controlled by the courtesy lamp circuit and illuminates whenever the deck lid is opened.
- Vanity Lamps - An optional single intensity, incandescent vanity lamp is located on each side of a covered mirror on both the right and left sun visors, and is controlled by an integral vanity mirror cover-actuated switch.

Most controls on the instrument panel and elsewhere in the interior of the vehicle are illuminated by the panel lamps dimmer circuit for night visibility. All have miniature incandescent bulbs, Light-Emitting Diode (LED) units or a combination of the two lighting types that are soldered to internal circuit boards and are not serviceable.

Other components of the interior lighting system for this vehicle include:

- Door Ajar Switches - A door ajar switch is integral to the door latch mechanism of each front and rear door.
- Instrument Cluster - The ElectroMechanical Instrument Cluster (EMIC) is also known as the Cab Compartment Node (CCN) in this vehicle. The EMIC/CCN is located in the instrument panel above the steering column opening, directly in front of the driver. Instrument Cluster - Description.
- Multi-Function Switch - The left (lighting) multi-function switch is located on the steering column, just below the steering wheel. A control sleeve on the control stalk that extends from the left side of the switch is used to select the panel lamps dimmer lighting level or the courtesy lamp circuit operating mode. A PARADE position of the control sleeve illuminates all display units at full brightness for visibility when driving in daylight with the exterior lighting turned ON. There are also detent positions to turn ON all interior courtesy lighting, and a DEFEAT position that overrides door ajar switch control of interior lighting. Left Multifunction Switch - Description.
- Totally Integrated Power Module - The Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) is located in the engine compartment. Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) - Description.
- Steering Control Module - The Steering Control Module (SCM) is located within the left multi-function switch housing on the top of the steering column, just below the steering wheel. Steering Column Module - Description.

Hard wired circuitry connects the interior lighting system components to the electrical system of the vehicle. These hard wired circuits are integral to several wire harnesses, which are routed throughout the vehicle and retained by many different methods. These circuits may be connected to each other, to the vehicle electrical system and to the interior lighting components through the use of a combination of soldered splices, splice block connectors, and many different types of wire harness terminal connectors and insulators. Refer to the appropriate wiring information. The wiring information includes wiring diagrams, proper wire and connector repair procedures, further details on wire harness routing and retention, as well as pin-out and location views for the various wire harness connectors, splices and grounds.
